Newtown

With less than 2 months before uni, we decided to explore somewhere more than five minutes from our home, and drove to Newtown one late afternoon.

Driving down King Street at practically a walking pace, paired with being extremely hungry, what immediately drew our attention was an all black restaurant curiously named 'twelve'. Among the bright and quirky looking restaurants with humorously thought out names, it had a different charm.

We've always had a special place in our hearts reserved for Italian restaurants, especially ones that give off that warm, homey feel - not surprisingly, 'twelve' was exactly that. The service was incredibly fast, our food came our in just 15 minutes (but that could partly be because we were the only ones there) and the waiters were very friendly.

The food was pretty good for the price, reasonable portions that got us stuffed, especially the pizza - the base was amazing, so soft but crunchy at the same time. The pasta was a nice surprise, as was the calamari with a sour/tangy taste.

We were looking forward to trying red velvet ice cream from N2 - unfortunately the menu changed, but we tried instead an imitation ferrero rocher (hazelnut ice cream, rice bubbles and chocolate sauce), so it's all good.

Newtown has such a cool and artsy atmosphere it's hard not to want to walk into every book store, urban clothing shop or cafe and stay there for hours at a time - not to mention there is a lot more food we have yet to try and a lot more stores we have yet to visit. Definitely looking forward to next time.
